Grilled Shrimp and Corn Salad with Avocado

I think I’ll make this. Not tonight – tonight is “breakfast-for-dinner”….

I need to read more.  I feel well-informed of current affairs from reading various news media, but I don’t read enough books.  I used to love thumbing through books, especially historical fiction novels that had something to do with China and Mao’s Cultural Revolution.  Now I spend the majority of my day at work staring at a computer screen, only to come home to stare at a computer screen perusing through different food-related websites, my blog, and anything else of interest.  And then there’s the television.  I’m addicted to my television.  How pathetic, right?  I love my Bravo station.  Real Housewives of Atlanta, Beverly Hills, New Jersey, New York, and Orange County?  Yes, please!

The sad thing is that I can’t even remember the last time I picked up a book for leisure.  I even bought myself and my partner a Kindle in hopes that it would encourage me to…

How To Write a Rap Song: A Gift for Bad Mothas

The Official How To Blog

To all of the bad Mothas out there, please accept a Mother’s Day gift that keeps on giving: the key ingredients to write an amazing rap song. When you rake in millions for your ghetto fabulous track, I ask that you please send me 35% of your earnings.

How to Write a Rap Song

1. Establish yourself: You must, and I repeat MUST, yell out your area code between 4-6 times throughout your song. If you don’t, people won’t know where you’re from. Helpful hint: if you hail from a small suburb, use the big city’s area code instead. Street cred is everything.

2. Brand yourself: Once you’ve recorded one song, thereby establishing yourself, begin referring to yourself by nickname only. “Ursher, baby!” “It’s Weezie!” “HOVA!” Additionally, it’s important to have a gesture or sign to accompany the name.

Peanut Butter Cookie Cake

the primal food blog

photo-4

Can I just say that I love peanut butter?  Before bed I eat a spoonful (or two) of peanut butter with a gulp of milk.  I love my almond flour brownies, but sometimes I need something peanut-buttery.  And ever since I discovered an amazing low glycemic sugar substitute in coconut sugar, I have been able to experiment more in my dessert recipes.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake

  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 3/4 cup – 1 cup coconut sugar (I use 1 cup because I like things sweet)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter (can substitute almond butter to make primal)
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil or butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees
  2. Mix together the almond flour, sugar, and baking powder.
  3. Beat in the eggs, peanut butter, oil, vanilla extract…

Struggle for Freedom

Jessisca used to work for me….

like black butterflies

Thursday and Friday of my week in Joburg/Pretoria were spent at museums. The first place we visited was Freedom Park in Pretoria. It was highly rated online but I wonder how many people actually visit, because it’s kind of in the middle of nowhere and you have to drive through some pretty dodgy areas to get there. Once we arrived we found a pretty incredible facility, which is saying something, as I’ve visited many museums and monuments. We did both the museum and the guided tour of the Garden of Remembrance, and since there really weren’t any visitors at the park that day so we got to take our time. The layout of the park and the symbolism behind its designs and monument was really beautiful. But the one aspect of the park that probably stood out the most was the Wall of Names. In the US we all know the…

The Mind-Body Harmonisation of Physical Exercise or Why Exercise is like Meditation

Veganlosophy

Physical exercise is so much more than just attempting to look good.  It’s not something necessary for ONLY some people nor should it be about being vain. Yes’s it is about losing weight if you need to for health, sometimes it is about rehabilitation after injuries, but much much more than that working out is about discovering your INNER STRENGTH, developing COURAGE, WILL POWER, SELF DISCIPLINE and DETERMINATION.

Working out teaches you to take the time for yourself and realise your SELF WORTH, the importance, benefits and the amazing results that come from looking after yourself.

The mind that was once the enemy, at first resisting everything, saying you’re not strong enough, fit enough, that you can’t do it, with practice because a powerful ally, connecting to the body in a harmonising union that not only teaches you how to power through the tough times in your workout but…
